Wasaga Beach is set to recognize the people who care for and educate its youngest residents. Mayor Brian Smith has declared Oct. 21, 2026 as the 26th annual Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day in the town, according to a Town of Wasaga Beach proclamation.

"I, Mayor Brian Smith, do hereby declare October 21, 2026, the 26th annual 'Child Care Worker & Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day,'" the proclamation reads, "in recognition of the education, dedication and commitment of child care workers to children, their families and quality of life of the community."

The proclamation, issued ahead of the appreciation day on Wednesday, points to what it describes as years of research confirming the benefits of high-quality early learning and child care for young children's intellectual, emotional, social and physical development.

It also frames child care as a community-wide issue, not just a family one. According to the document, early learning and child care promotes the well-being of children and responds to the needs of families and the broader community by supporting quality of life, so that citizens can fully participate in and contribute to the economic and social life of their community.

Where early childhood educators work

The proclamation highlights the range of settings in which Registered Early Childhood Educators practise. It states that trained and knowledgeable RECEs are the key to quality in early years and child care programs, including licensed child care, EarlyON programs, child life programs and full-day kindergarten.

For families in Wasaga Beach and across Simcoe County, those programs touch nearly every stage of the early years — from drop-in EarlyON playgroups to the kindergarten classrooms their children enter each September.

The document also ties the work of RECEs and child care workers to national policy, stating that they are vital to the success of the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care system.

Recognition ahead of election day

The appreciation day lands less than a week before Wasaga Beach voters head to the polls. The town's notice reminds residents that the municipal election is Oct. 26, 2026, and encourages them to check their voter registration and look up details on advance voting, voting locations and how to cast a ballot.

The proclamation closes by crediting child care workers' training and dedication as the foundation of quality early learning, marking Oct. 21 as the community's chance to acknowledge the role they play in the lives of children, families and the town as a whole.
